About Strong Denver
A Strong Towns chapter bringing Denver's city data to life in digestible, actionable ways
What is Strong Towns?
Strong Towns is a national movement that advocates for cities and towns that are financially strong and resilient. We believe in building communities that can thrive for generations to come.
The Strong Towns approach focuses on:
- Financial resilience - Cities that can pay their bills without going broke
- Incremental development - Small, gradual improvements over time
- Local decision-making - Communities making choices for themselves
- Evidence-based planning - Using real data to guide decisions
Strong Towns challenges the conventional wisdom of urban development and asks: "Does this make our city stronger or weaker?"
Strong Denver Chapter
Strong Denver is our local chapter of the Strong Towns movement. We're a group of Denver residents, planners, developers, and community members who care about making our city more financially resilient and livable.
As a chapter, we:
- Host discussions about Denver's development patterns
- Analyze local policies and their financial impacts
- Advocate for incremental, neighborhood-scale improvements
- Build tools that make city data accessible to everyone
We believe that when citizens understand how their city works financially, they can make better decisions about its future.
This Website
This website is our contribution to making Denver's city data accessible, understandable, and actionable. We believe that data should tell a story that everyone can understand.
Our mission: Bring relevant data about our cities to life in a digestible way.
We focus on data that matters for Strong Towns principles:
- Tax revenue per acre - Shows which areas generate the most value for the city
- Land use efficiency - Reveals how well we're using our limited space
- Development patterns - Helps understand what makes neighborhoods thrive
- Financial sustainability - Shows which areas can pay for their own infrastructure
Interactive Mapping
We create interactive maps that visualize complex city data, making patterns across Denver neighborhoods easy to see and understand.
Data Analysis
Our tools analyze tax revenue, property values, and land use patterns to reveal insights about neighborhood financial health.
Tax Revenue Per Acre Analysis
Our current project analyzes Denver's tax revenue per acre across all 225,000+ parcels. This Strong Towns-style analysis reveals:
- Which neighborhoods generate enough tax revenue to pay for their infrastructure
- Where the city is subsidizing development that doesn't pay for itself
- Opportunities for more efficient, financially sustainable land use
- How different zoning and development patterns affect city finances
This data helps residents, developers, and policymakers understand the true financial impact of different land use decisions - a core Strong Towns principle.
